Library Items - Capital

Procedures

All cataloged library acquisitions shall be capitalized. There are no limitations as to the total cost spent per unit. Departmental purchases of manuals or other professional guides not cataloged in the University library system will not be capitalized.

For further details on capitalization definitions, policies and procedures, see the Office of the Controller’s Capital Asset Standard Operating Procedures.

Correct Object Code must be utilized on the purchase and disbursement documents.

For questions go to the Controller’s Office Contact Us page.

Note: Electronic resources such as Ebooks, Ejournals, Databases, and Institutional Memberships will not be capitalized as IU does not retain ownership of this material, but instead is only purchasing the rights to access them.
