As Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Katie Walker oversees a broad portfolio of financial and administrative functions for the Bloomington campus, managing a $2 billion budget. She provides strategic fiscal leadership and develops operational strategies to advance the university's mission and priorities. Her areas of responsibility include budget planning, human resources, financial administration, internal controls, foundation management, and auxiliary services.
Katie works closely with the IU Bloomington Chancellor, the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, and other senior leaders to shape the campus's long-term financial strategy.
Before joining IU, Katie served as Associate Vice President and Chief Budget Officer at the University of Virginia, where she led teams in budget and planning, cost accounting, fixed assets, and business intelligence. In 2023, she received the Rising Star Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), recognizing her as a future executive leader in higher education finance.
Her earlier experience includes roles in the University of Colorado Boulder budget office and in UVA's School of Education and Human Development. Katie earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education from UVA, focusing her dissertation on responsibility center management (RCM) budget models, as well as a master's in teaching social studies from UVA and dual bachelor's degrees in history and anthropology from Arizona State University.
An active contributor to the field, Katie serves on NACUBO's Analytics Advisory Group and frequently presents at national and regional conferences on planning and budgeting in higher education
